Dougs, a Lyon-based technology company delivering regulated accounting and financial management services to small businesses, has raised €50 million in funding. The funding came from Expedition Growth Capital, a growth equity firm with offices in London and Boston, backing rapidly growing, founder-owned software and AI companies on their path to market leadership. It manages more than €900 million ($1 billion) in assets and raised €323 million for Fund III in December 2025. “Artificial intelligence is radically transforming the services sector, but its impact is all the greater when underpinned by deep domain expertise. Dougs is a rare example of this fusion in the accountancy industry. The company is mastering the optimal mix of deterministic code, frontier AI and certified professionals to deliver industry leading service and value to a rapidly growing base of 50,000 customers. We are convinced that this combination makes it one of the best-positioned players to shape the next generation of accountancy in Europe,” said Oliver Thomas, founder and Managing Partner at Expedition Growth. Founded by chartered accountants and Rather than selling software services or tools to accountants, Dougs owns the client relationship directly. Its platform covers company formation, accounting, legal, payroll, invoicing through a certified e-invoicing platform, a business account, and wealth management via a dedicated subsidiary. It now serves more than 50,000 businesses and generates over €50 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), with a growth rate of 50% or more annually for a decade. Dougs says it has built the entire technology stack in-house and employs over 100 engineers. Since being founded in 2014, the company has filed hundreds of thousands of tax returns and financial statements, building a proprietary record of accounting workflows, customer context, exceptions, and professional decisions. “We are chartered accountants who happen to write our own software. That is the whole point,” said Patrick Maurice, CEO and co-founder of Dougs. The combination of technology and human expertise, Dougs argues, has driven gross margins above 80%, well above the industry norm of below 50%. The company says a single Dougs accountant is able to handle many times more clients than a typical accountant. “We can automate accounting production because we have done the work ourselves for ten years and know what good looks like. Every improvement in AI models makes our service faster and cheaper, while our regulatory licence and the scale of our client base are very hard to copy. With this round, we will finish automating production and use the time it frees up to get closer to our clients,” added Maurice. Dougs has already embedded AI into its accounting production, completing bookkeeping workflows autonomously, and is now pushing toward agentic accounting services, where financial systems are generated entirely by agentic systems, reviewed and signed off by a chartered accountant. “Automating most of the bookkeeping was only the starting point. AI lets us go much further and rethink how accounting is actually produced. We built our own agentic platform, with a harness that plugs straight into our tools and encodes our accounting expertise. Our accountants work with it every day, and it’s already running entire stages of production end to end. The next milestone is financial statements generated autonomously, then reviewed and signed off by an accountant. AI does the heavy lifting while our accountants bring the judgement,” said Florent Galland, COO and co-founder of Dougs. Dougs says the new capital will be used to accelerate its proprietary AI and automation technology, broaden its platform across accounting, legal, and financial management, while strengthening its presence in France through a network of local partners. In a statement, the company said France represents a market of over €20 billion across accounting and adjacent services, and Dougs’ core segment alone accounts for approximately €1.5 billion today. The company is targeting €100 million in ARR and 100,000 customers in the coming years, with the goal of becoming France’s largest chartered accounting business.
